T hinges or hook and band hinges?

T hinges combine a long strap on the door with a fixing plate on the frame. From The Anvil offers penny and arrow ends in Black and Pewter Patina; bronze T hinges provide a dark bronze alternative.

Hook and band hinges use a separate hook plate and strap. The crank on our cranked hook and band hinges allows the door to sit flush with the frame surface. Check the mounting arrangement and clearances before choosing straight or cranked fittings.

Choosing stable door hinges

For a split stable door, assess the top and bottom leaves separately so each has suitable hinges and fixings. Check the weight, thickness and available timber at every fixing point. For larger timber doors, compare our Barn Door Hinges.

Finishes for exterior use

From The Anvil’s Black and Pewter Patina finishes are suitable for exterior use with the recommended care. These differ from our indoor-only beeswax and pewter-finish mild-steel ranges.

Armor-Coat T hinges offer a corrosion-resistant coating suitable for Accoya and coastal applications. Tudor cast-iron hinges are for exterior use but are not recommended for coastal locations. Follow the selected product’s care guidance.

Sizes, quantities and fixings
