What Is Hand Beaten Hardware?

Hand beaten hardware has a textured surface created through a controlled hammering process. Instead of a completely flat or machine-smooth finish, the surface contains subtle impressions that reflect light differently across the product.

The texture introduces character without overwhelming the shape of the fitting. Small variations in the pattern are part of the hand-finished appearance and help distinguish the collection from conventional smooth hardware.

Solid-Brass Construction

The collection is manufactured from solid brass, providing reassuring weight and a substantial feel. Different decorative finishes are then applied to the brass base to create warmer traditional options and cleaner contemporary alternatives.

Solid-brass construction does not mean that every finish will age in the same way. Polished, plated and aged surfaces have different care requirements, so review the individual product information before cleaning or polishing.

Six Coordinating Finishes

The Hand Beaten collection is available in six principal finishes:

  • Antique or aged brass for a warm, established appearance
  • Matt bronze for a darker and understated finish
  • Polished bronze for a warmer surface with greater contrast
  • Polished chrome for a bright contemporary appearance
  • Satin brass for a softer modern brass finish
  • Satin nickel for a muted silver-toned appearance

Finish availability should be checked on the individual product because certain designs or sizes may not be available in every option.

Hand Beaten Cabinet Knobs

Choose from classic, Victorian, mushroom, ball and oval cabinet knobs for kitchen cupboards, drawers, fitted wardrobes and freestanding furniture. The hammered texture adds detail to simple cabinetry while remaining practical for everyday use.

When selecting cabinet knobs, consider the diameter, projection and size of the mounting base. Larger knobs can provide a more substantial grip on wide or heavy drawers, while smaller designs may be more proportionate on compact cupboard doors.

Hammered Cabinet Pull Handles

The collection includes square, hexagonal, D-shaped, bow and slim bow pull handles. These designs provide a larger grip than a cabinet knob and are particularly useful on drawers and larger cupboard doors.

Before replacing existing handles, measure the distance between the fixing holes from centre to centre. Overall handle length and fixing centres are different measurements and should not be treated as interchangeable.

Cup Handles for Drawers

Hammered cup handles include traditional cup-pull and half-moon designs. Their enclosed shape is especially well suited to kitchen drawers, utility-room storage and other cabinetry where a classic finger pull is preferred.

Check the width, projection and fixing positions before ordering. Wider cup handles may not fit comfortably on narrow drawer fronts or between decorative mouldings.

Coat Hooks and Robe Hooks

Complete hallways, bedrooms, bathrooms and utility spaces with matching hammered coat and robe hooks. Available designs include acorn, classic, single and double hooks.

The strength of an installed hook depends on both the mounting surface and the fixings used. Select suitable wall fixings for timber, masonry or plasterboard and do not assume the supplied screws are appropriate for every surface or load.

Hammered Door Furniture

The wider range includes hammered door knobs and lever handles for internal doors. Coordinating lock furniture includes Euro-profile escutcheons, British Standard keyhole escutcheons and bathroom thumbturns.

Door furniture must be compatible with the selected latch or lock. Before ordering, check the door thickness, spindle size, latch backset, keyhole profile and fixing arrangement shown on the product listing.

A Euro-profile escutcheon is shaped for a Euro cylinder, while a traditional or British Standard keyhole requires a different opening. Choose the profile that matches the lock already fitted or planned for the door.

Creating a Coordinated Interior

The collection can be used to repeat the same texture and finish across different fittings. For example, cabinet knobs and cup handles can be matched with coat hooks, while door knobs or lever handles can be paired with coordinating escutcheons and bathroom turns.

Using one principal finish throughout a room creates a consistent scheme. Alternatively, the hammered texture can provide the visual connection while different finishes are used in separate areas.

Measuring Before Ordering

Check all relevant dimensions before drilling or replacing hardware, including:

  • Overall width, height and projection
  • Fixing centres on pull and cup handles
  • Knob diameter and base dimensions
  • Cabinet door or drawer thickness
  • Door thickness, spindle and latch requirements
  • Existing fixing holes and marks that need to be covered

Where several products are being installed together, order and compare samples or individual pieces before drilling every cabinet front.

Care and Environmental Suitability

Clean hand-beaten hardware with a soft cloth and avoid abrasive pads or harsh chemical sprays. The textured surface can retain polish or cleaner, so use only products recommended for the specific finish.

Do not assume that every item is suitable for exterior or highly humid use. Check the individual listing before fitting products outdoors, in bathrooms or in coastal environments.
