Fanlight Window Furniture

Shop fanlight window furniture for traditional timber windows, including catches, quadrant stays, roller-arm stays and screw openers. These specialist fittings provide different ways to close, restrict or operate suitable fanlight windows, including high-level openings that may be difficult to reach by hand.

Choosing the correct fanlight window hardware depends on the hinge position, opening direction, available fixing space and the job the fitting needs to perform. Check the individual product dimensions and suitability before ordering, particularly when replacing existing hardware.

Which Fanlight Window Fitting Do I Need?

Fanlight catches, stays and screw openers perform different functions and should not be treated as interchangeable fittings.

  • Fanlight catches hold a compatible window in its closed position.
  • Quadrant stays restrict and support the opening section of a suitable fanlight.
  • Roller-arm stays provide another way to control the opening movement, using a side-mounted arrangement.
  • Fanlight screw openers provide an adjustable mechanism for opening and closing a compatible high-level window.

Before choosing between them, identify whether your window is top-hung or bottom-hung, whether it opens inwards or outwards and how the fitting will be reached and operated.

For a more detailed comparison of the different fitting types, read our How to Choose Fanlight Window Hardware guide.

Fanlight Window Catches

A fanlight catch is used to hold a compatible window closed. Ring-pull designs can be particularly useful on high-level fanlights because certain products can be operated with a suitable pole hook.

The catches in our current range are intended for suitable bottom-hung fanlights, but the fixing arrangement, keeper position, material and stated suitability vary between products. Check the individual product information rather than assuming that every fanlight catch fits in the same way.

Browse our dedicated Fanlight Catches collection to compare the available catch designs and finishes.

Quadrant and Roller-Arm Window Stays

Specialist window stays control how far a suitable fanlight can open. The range includes both quadrant and roller-arm designs, with different sizes and operating arrangements available.

Quadrant stays use a curved arm between the frame and opening section. Some products in the current range are intended specifically for bottom-hung fanlights, while another is listed for suitable top- or bottom-hung windows. Product suitability therefore needs to be checked individually.

Roller-arm stays are fitted at the side of the window and restrict its opening movement. Current designs vary in size and application, and some installations may require a stay on each side depending on the window and product guidance.

Fanlight Window Screw Openers

A fanlight screw opener is a different type of fitting because it is used to operate the window as well as control its opening. It can provide a practical way to open and close a compatible high-level fanlight using the appropriate operating equipment.

The current Fanlight Window Screw Opener is intended for suitable bottom-hung windows. Check the product dimensions, window orientation, available fixing area and operating requirements before choosing it.

Choosing Fanlight Window Hardware

Before ordering fanlight window furniture, check:

  • whether the window is top-hung or bottom-hung;
  • whether the opening section moves inwards or outwards;
  • whether you need to close, restrict or operate the window;
  • the size and available fixing area of the frame and opening section;
  • the required opening distance;
  • how high the window is positioned and how the fitting will be reached;
  • whether a particular stay is intended to be fitted singly or in pairs; and
  • the dimensions and suitability stated for the individual product.

Similar-looking fittings can have different operating requirements. Use the technical information for the exact product as the final reference rather than selecting from appearance or finish alone.

Materials and Finishes

The current fanlight range includes fittings in steel, mild steel and solid brass, with finish availability varying by product. Options across the range include black, beeswax, pewter, brass, chrome, nickel and bronze finishes.

Choose the correct fitting and compatibility first, then consider the finish. If you are coordinating fanlight fittings with other brass window hardware, browse our Brass Window Hardware collection.
