Fanlight Window Furniture

Explore our range of fanlight window furniture, including catches, specialist stays and screw openers for traditional timber windows. These fittings are particularly useful for high-level fanlights, windows above doors and other hard-to-reach openings.

Choose from fanlight catches for securing a closed window, specialist stays for supporting the opening section, and a fanlight window screw opener for suitable high-level windows.

What Is a Fanlight Window?

A fanlight is a smaller window traditionally positioned above a door or larger window. While the name originally referred to fan-shaped designs, fanlights can also be rectangular. They bring additional daylight into entrance halls, corridors and other spaces where a full-size window may not be practical.

Opening fanlights may be hinged at the top or bottom of the frame. The hinge position and opening direction help determine the correct catch, stay or operating mechanism.

Fanlight Catches

A fanlight catch secures the window in its closed position. Certain designs include a ring that can be operated using a suitable pole hook, making them useful for high-level or otherwise inaccessible windows.

Some fanlight catches can also be suitable for loft hatches or cupboard doors. Check the supplied keepers, fixing arrangement and product dimensions before installation.

Specialist Window Stays

Quadrant and roller-arm stays help support the opening window and control how far it can move. These specialist fittings are commonly used with suitable fanlights where a standard casement stay would not provide the required operation.

Fanlight Window Screw Openers

A fanlight screw opener provides a controlled way to open and close a compatible high-level window. The mechanism can be operated from below using the appropriate pole, allowing ventilation without needing to reach the window directly.

Choosing the Right Fanlight Fitting

Before choosing fanlight window hardware, consider:

  • Whether the window is top-hung or bottom-hung
  • Whether you need a catch, stay or complete operating mechanism
  • The height of the window and how it will be reached
  • The size, weight and material of the opening section
  • The required opening distance and ventilation
  • The finish of your existing window and door furniture
