Wall-Mounted Sliding Door Hardware

A wall-mounted sliding door runs along an exposed track positioned above the doorway. The door remains visible and slides across the face of the wall rather than entering a concealed wall pocket.

This type of hardware works particularly well in barn conversions, period properties, open-plan interiors and rooms where there is insufficient floor space for the swing of a conventional hinged door.

The exposed black track and hangers also form part of the room’s design, providing an architectural or industrial-style feature.

Sliding Door Hardware Kit

Our Sliding Door Hardware Kit is designed for a single wall-mounted internal door. It is available with a choice of:

• 2m or 3m track length
• Top-mounted runners
• Front-mounted runners
• Black finish

The current kit is suitable for internal doors weighing up to 100kg and between 36mm and 46mm thick. Door-width requirements differ according to the selected track and runner configuration.

Top-Mounted Sliding Door Runners

Top-mounted runners attach to the top edge of the timber door. This keeps more of the fixing arrangement out of view when the door is seen from the front, while retaining the exposed black track above the opening.

The door must have sufficient solid material within its top edge to accept the fixings safely. Hollow or lightweight doors may require reinforcement or may not be suitable.

Front-Mounted Sliding Door Runners

Front-mounted runners attach to the broad face of the door. The hanger straps remain visible and create a stronger barn-door or industrial appearance.

Check that the door face can accept the fixing arrangement and that there is sufficient clearance between the door, wall, architrave and skirting board.

Sliding Door Hanging Set

The Sliding Door Hanging Set provides a separate black hanging-hardware option for suitable sliding-door installations.

The Hanging Set and complete Hardware Kit are separate products and should not be assumed to contain the same components. Check the Hanging Set listing for its included parts, dimensions, load limit and required accompanying hardware before ordering.

Choosing Between the Hardware Kit and Hanging Set

Choose the complete Sliding Door Hardware Kit when you require a coordinated track-and-runner system in one of the available 2m or 3m configurations.

The Sliding Door Hanging Set may be appropriate when you need the dedicated hanging components for a compatible system or replacement project. Because installation requirements differ, compare the technical information for both products carefully.

Track Length and Door Width

The track must be long enough for the door to move completely clear of the opening while retaining the required overlap when closed.

For the current Sliding Door Hardware Kit:

• The 2m track is suitable for a door up to 1000mm wide.
• The 3m track is suitable for a door up to 1500mm wide.
• Minimum door-width requirements vary by configuration.

Use the technical drawing for the selected kit to calculate the final door position, track placement and fixing points. Do not select a track from the doorway width alone.

What to Measure Before Ordering

Before choosing your sliding-door hardware, check:

• The door width and height
• The door thickness
• The total weight of the door
• The doorway width and height
• The required overlap at the sides and top
• The uninterrupted wall space beside the doorway
• The available headroom above the opening
• The position of skirting boards and architraves
• The location of switches, sockets, radiators and other obstructions
• The structure into which the track will be fixed

The wall space beside the opening must be wide enough to receive the door when fully open. The door must also sit far enough away from the wall to clear skirting boards, trims and other projecting features.

Wall Strength and Structural Fixings

The supporting structure must carry the combined weight of the door, track and moving hardware. Plasterboard alone should not be treated as sufficient support for a heavy sliding door.

Determine whether the track will be fixed into timber studs, masonry, structural timber or steelwork. Although the product may include its standard fixings, different wall constructions can require alternative structural fixings selected by the installer.

If the supporting structure is uncertain, seek advice from a competent installer or structural professional before fitting the system.

Depending on the product selected and the installation, additional items may include:

• A suitable internal timber door
• Structural wall fixings
• A mounting board or structural timber support
• Sliding-door pull handles
• A floor guide
• Stops or buffers
• A compatible privacy lock, where required

Check the individual product contents before ordering. The door, handles and suitable wall-specific structural fixings should not be assumed to be included.

Choosing Sliding Door Handles

Because the door slides across the face of the wall, handle projection and wall clearance must be considered. A projecting pull may be used where sufficient clearance is available, while a recessed flush pull creates a lower-profile finish.

For bathrooms and bedrooms, a specialist sliding-door privacy lock may also be required. The handle or hanging system does not provide a locking function by itself.

Installation Considerations

The track must be installed level and securely fixed to an appropriate structure. Incorrect alignment can cause the door to roll unevenly, move when left open or closed, or place unnecessary strain on the runners.

Follow the supplied instructions and technical drawing for the exact product. If the doorway forms part of a fire-rated assembly, use only a complete sliding-door system approved for that purpose.
