Shop Cabinet Knobs by Material and Finish

Material, colour and surface texture can all affect how a cabinet knob looks against painted or natural timber. Explore the main collections:

Where Can Cabinet Knobs Be Used?

Cabinet knobs can be fitted to kitchen cupboards, drawer fronts, bathroom furniture, utility-room cabinets, fitted wardrobes and freestanding pieces such as dressers, bedside tables and chests of drawers.

Smaller knobs are often well suited to narrow drawers and lightweight cupboard doors. Larger or more substantial designs can provide a stronger grip and may look better proportioned on full-height cupboards, wardrobes and wider drawer fronts.

The intended application varies between products, so check the dimensions, projection, base diameter and fixing information on the individual listing before ordering.

Choosing the Right Cabinet Knob Size

There is no single correct knob size for every cabinet. Consider the proportions of the door or drawer, the weight of the moving panel and how comfortably the knob can be gripped.

  • Check the knob diameter or width to make sure it suits the scale of the furniture.
  • Check the projection to ensure there is enough space to grip the knob comfortably.
  • Check the base or rose diameter if the new knob must cover an existing hole or fixing mark.
  • Measure the cabinet-door or drawer-front thickness against the supplied fixing length.
  • On adjacent doors and drawers, check that projecting knobs will not strike each other when opened.

Traditional and Modern Cabinet Knobs

Traditional kitchens and period furniture work particularly well with beehive, bun, Victorian, oval and hand-beaten designs. Warm brass, bronze, wood, black and antique-style finishes can reinforce the character of painted or natural timber cabinetry.

For contemporary kitchens and fitted furniture, consider disc, T-bar, square, rectangular, pyramid, knurled or other geometric designs. Polished chrome, satin nickel, satin brass, matt bronze and black finishes can be coordinated with appliances, taps and nearby door furniture.

Mixing styles can also work well. For example, use knobs on cupboard doors and longer pull handles on wide drawers while keeping the material and finish consistent.

Replacing Existing Cupboard Knobs

Most cabinet knobs use a single fixing hole, making them relatively straightforward to replace. However, fixing diameter, screw length and knob-base size can differ.

Remove one existing knob and measure the panel thickness, fixing hole and any marks left on the surface. Confirm that the new knob’s base will cover the existing area and that its fixing is suitable for the door or drawer.

Fixings may be supplied with individual products, but their suitability depends on the cabinet construction and panel thickness. Check the product listing before ordering and use an appropriate alternative fixing where necessary.

Coordinating Cabinet Hardware

Many cabinet-knob designs form part of wider hardware collections. Pair knobs with cabinet pull handles on larger drawers, or add coordinating cabinet latches to cupboards that need a visible closing mechanism.

You can also coordinate cabinet fittings with nearby door knobs, handles, hinges and bathroom accessories. Remember that finishes with similar names may vary between manufacturers or product ranges, so compare the product photographs and finish information carefully.

Caring for Cabinet Knobs

Wipe cabinet knobs with a soft, dry or slightly damp cloth. Avoid abrasive pads, metal cleaners and harsh sprays unless they are specifically recommended in the product’s care instructions.

Lacquered, plated, wooden, living and applied finishes have different maintenance requirements. Check the individual listing before using polish or cleaning products.

If a knob becomes loose, tighten the fixing carefully from inside the door or drawer. Avoid overtightening, which can damage the fitting or cabinet surface.
