Black Cast Iron Shelf Brackets

Cast iron has a substantial feel and is a popular choice for period properties, cottage kitchens and interiors where the brackets are intended to remain visible. Most cast iron designs in this collection have a smooth matt black coating and are sold individually with matching screws.

Art Deco and Industrial Shelf Brackets

For a more decorative feature, choose an Art Deco black shelf bracket with a bold geometric design. Its larger dimensions make it suitable for wider shelves and scaffold boards, subject to the wall construction and fixings used.

Our Industrial Black Shelf Bracket offers a simpler profile for rustic shelving, utility rooms and contemporary interiors. Smaller classic and scaffold brackets are also available where a more compact support is required.

Black Shelf Brackets with Hooks

The Black Hook Shelf Bracket combines a shelf support with an integrated hanging hook. It is useful for hallway shelves, coat storage and kitchen shelving where utensils, mugs or other lightweight accessories can be hung beneath the shelf.

This particular design is suitable for shelves with a maximum depth of 155mm. Check the product drawing and dimensions before cutting or ordering your shelf.

Choosing the Correct Bracket Size

As a general sizing guide, the projecting arm of the bracket should cover at least two-thirds of the shelf depth. A shelf measuring 225mm deep, for example, would normally require a bracket with a projection of at least 150mm.

Bracket spacing and load capacity depend on several factors, including:

• The material, thickness and length of the shelf
• The weight of the objects placed on it
• The number and spacing of the brackets
• Whether the wall is masonry, timber stud or plasterboard
• The type and length of screws, plugs or anchors used

Always consult the dimensions shown on the individual product page. If the shelf will carry books, cookware or another heavy load, seek appropriate installation advice rather than relying on the bracket size alone.

Fixing Shelf Brackets Safely

Although many brackets are supplied with matching screws, these standard fixings may not be suitable for every wall or shelving load. Masonry, timber-stud and plasterboard walls require different fixing methods, and the completed shelf will only be as secure as the wall and fixings supporting it.

Are Black Shelf Brackets Suitable for Outdoor Use?

Most of the black cast iron brackets in this collection are intended for internal use and are not recommended for exposed outdoor locations. Moisture and changing weather conditions may damage the coating and eventually cause corrosion.

Check the individual product specification if you are considering a bracket for a sheltered or external location.
