Cup Handles

Shop coastal door hardware for seaside homes and other exposed locations. The collection includes front door handles, multipoint handles, door knobs, knockers, letter plates, escutcheons, pulls, hinges and latches selected for projects where salt air, wind and moisture are important considerations.

Choose from marine stainless steel, Armor-Coat and other exterior-suitable materials and finishes for traditional or contemporary properties. Coastal hardware is not maintenance-free, so always check the individual product’s location guidance, care instructions and fixing requirements.

Why Coastal Homes Need Suitable Door Hardware

Properties near the sea are exposed to airborne salt, higher moisture levels and wind-driven rain. Salt deposits can remain on metal surfaces, attract moisture and accelerate changes to unsuitable materials, coatings and fixings.

The severity of exposure varies considerably. A sheltered property several miles inland may experience very different conditions from a seafront home exposed to direct salt spray and prevailing winds.

Selecting suitable hardware can improve durability, but no material or finish should be assumed to remain completely unchanged in every coastal location.

Explore Coastal Door Furniture

The collection brings together fittings for entrance doors, internal doors and exterior joinery, including:

  • Lever handles and multipoint door handles for compatible latch, lock and multipoint systems.
  • Mortice door knobs and centre door knobs in traditional and contemporary designs.
  • Letter plates, door knockers, pull handles and other entrance furniture.
  • Escutcheons and thumbturns for compatible lock and cylinder types.
  • T hinges, butt hinges and other exterior door fittings.
  • Thumb latches and complementary traditional ironmongery.

Not every item has the same corrosion resistance or intended location. Review the complete specification for the exact product and finish before ordering.

Marine Stainless Steel Door Hardware

Marine stainless steel is commonly selected for coastal and exposed locations because it offers greater resistance to corrosion than many standard decorative finishes. The collection includes polished and satin marine stainless steel options.

Available products include lever handles, multipoint handles, pull handles, centre knobs, mortice knobs, letterboxes, escutcheons and complementary fittings. Explore the wider Stainless Steel Hardware Collection .

Stainless steel can still collect salt deposits and surface staining if it is neglected. Its performance depends on the material specification, manufacturing, surface finish, fixings, installation and ongoing care.

Door Hardware with Armor-Coat

Armor-Coat is a protective finish developed for exterior hardware and demanding environments. Available products include door handles, hinges, thumb latches and other coordinated door and window fittings.

Armor-Coat is also used on products intended for acidic timbers such as Accoya. Check the individual listing for its stated environmental suitability, testing information, maintenance and guarantee conditions.

Is Solid Brass Suitable for Coastal Homes?

Solid brass does not rust in the same way as steel, but salt air, moisture and handling can cause tarnishing, spotting and patina. This natural surface change may be acceptable or desirable on unlacquered brass, but it will not retain a permanently bright appearance without maintenance.

Lacquered, plated and unlacquered brass finishes behave differently. Damage to a protective coating can expose the surface beneath, while unlacquered brass is intended to change naturally.

Choose brass only when the individual product is recommended for the intended location and you are comfortable with its likely maintenance and ageing characteristics.

Choosing Coastal Front Door Furniture

Start by identifying every visible and working component required for the door. Coordinating the main handle while overlooking the hinges, fixings, letter plate or lock furniture can leave less suitable components exposed to the same conditions.

Consider the following:

  • Distance from the sea and likelihood of direct salt spray.
  • Whether the entrance is sheltered by a porch or canopy.
  • Door material, including timber, composite, aluminium or uPVC.
  • Compatibility with the existing latch, lock or multipoint system.
  • The base material and protective finish of each product.
  • The material and corrosion resistance of the supplied fixings.
  • Manufacturer maintenance requirements and guarantee conditions.
  • Whether natural patina or surface change is acceptable.

Choosing Coastal Multipoint Door Handles

Multipoint handles must match the existing lock system. Check the fixing centres, spindle position, handle-to-cylinder measurement, backplate dimensions and required keyhole or cylinder profile.

Do not order a multipoint handle based on appearance alone. Compare the product drawing with the existing handle and lock measurements, or ask a competent installer to identify the required configuration.

Matching Coastal Door Hardware

Where possible, choose coordinating products from the same material and finish family. This can help maintain a consistent appearance and reduce unexpected differences between similarly named finishes.

Mixing unsuitable metals, fixings or coatings can affect appearance and performance in exposed environments. Use the fixings specified by the manufacturer and avoid substituting components without confirming their compatibility.

Caring for Coastal Door Hardware

Coastal door furniture requires regular inspection and cleaning. Do not wait until heavy salt deposits, corrosion or stiffness become visible.

  • Remove surface salt and dirt using the method recommended for the particular material and finish.
  • Use a soft cloth and avoid abrasive pads that can scratch protective surfaces.
  • Dry the hardware after cleaning rather than leaving moisture on the surface.
  • Avoid harsh chemicals, metal polishes and aerosol sprays unless the manufacturer specifically recommends them.
  • Inspect screws, joints, moving parts and areas where coatings may have been damaged.
  • Follow any recommended cleaning frequency for highly exposed locations.

Maintenance instructions differ between marine stainless steel, brass, bronze, Armor-Coat and other finishes. Always follow the individual product guidance.

Is Coastal Door Hardware Maintenance-Free?

No exterior door hardware should be considered completely maintenance-free, particularly near the sea. Suitable materials and finishes improve resistance, but exposure, installation and care remain important.

If your property is directly exposed to sea spray or severe weather, contact us with details of the door, location and required fittings before ordering.
