Traditional Door Bolts
Our hand forged door bolts are crafted from solid mild steel using traditional blacksmithing techniques, offering a robust and characterful solution for interior doors, cupboards, and period joinery. Finished in black beeswax or rustic pewter, these bolts bring an antique look and a vintage feel that suits cottage renovations, barn conversions, and heritage-style interiors.
The collection includes three distinctive styles:
Shepherd’s Crook Bolts – available in straight and cranked (necked) options, ideal for bedroom, bathroom, or cupboard doors. The curved handle pairs beautifully with matching window stays.
Fishtail Bolts – a simpler, practical design for securing internal doors or adding privacy to smaller rooms. Suitable for horizontal or vertical use.
Tudor Door Bolts – designed for external doors, gates, and sheds. These outdoor-ready bolts come with a protective Armor-Coat® finish for weather resistance.
All bolts feature a built-in leaf-sprung mechanism to prevent slippage, allowing them to stay in place whether mounted vertically or horizontally. Straight bolts are used where both surfaces are level, while cranked bolts are designed to bridge offset surfaces. Each bolt is supplied with matching screws and either a receiver plate or mortice keep depending on the style.
Please note: the black beeswax finish is a natural protective coating and may feel sticky to the touch when new. This can be gently buffed with a cloth and maintained over time with an occasional coat of beeswax.
