Wooden Door Knobs

Wooden door knobs are a traditional choice for internal doors, period properties, cottages and painted panelled doors. Our collection includes rosewood and ebonised designs in classic shapes such as Georgian, Bun, Ringed and Beehive door knobs.

Rosewood door knobs offer a natural timber appearance with visible grain, while ebonised wooden door knobs provide a darker finish that works well with Victorian interiors, black rim locks and traditional ironmongery. Many designs are supplied with antique brass or chrome rose plates to suit different door finishes.

Choose from wooden door knobs for standard mortice latches or traditional rim lock door knob sets, depending on the lock fitted to your door. If your door has a visible surface-mounted rim lock, make sure you choose a rim lock version rather than a standard mortice set.

For co-ordinating hardware, browse our door hinges and keyhole escutcheons. For more guidance, read our Wooden Door Knobs Explained guide or our wider Door Knobs Explained guide.

Choosing wooden door knobs

Before choosing a style, check how the door works. A modern internal door will usually use a mortice latch or tubular latch, while many older period doors may have a surface-mounted rim lock.

Many traditional wooden door knobs are unsprung, which means the latch or lock provides the return action. For this reason, they should usually be paired with a good quality latch or lock with a strong spring.

Beehive, Georgian, Bun and Ringed designs all suit period homes, but the right choice depends on the door, the room and the surrounding hardware. Rosewood gives a warmer timber look, while ebonised finishes create a darker, more formal appearance.

Matching wooden door knobs with other hardware

Wooden door knobs pair naturally with traditional rim locks, mortice latches, keyhole escutcheons and butt hinges. Antique brass roses work particularly well with rosewood and ebonised finishes, while chrome rose plates can suit lighter or more neutral interiors.

If you are replacing existing handles or knobs, check the rose diameter, old fixing marks and latch position before ordering. This helps avoid visible witness marks and ensures the new knobs sit comfortably away from the door frame.
