Why Choose Georgian Wooden Door Knobs?

Our Georgian Wooden Door Knobs with Chrome Rose are based on a design that became popular during the Georgian period and continues to suit traditional homes today. Featuring straight sides with decorative concentric rings and a flat face with matching detailing, this design offers a more formal appearance than a traditional beehive knob whilst retaining the character expected from period ironmongery.

Available in either natural rosewood or an ebonised finish, these wooden door knobs are supplied as a pair and mounted on solid brass rose plates finished in polished chrome. The combination of traditional timber and bright chrome hardware makes them equally at home in period renovations, country properties and homes where traditional design is being paired with modern finishes.

These door knobs work particularly well on panelled doors when positioned on the centre rail. This allows a longer tubular latch to be used whilst maintaining the correct proportions and appearance of the door.

The polished chrome rose provides a brighter alternative to traditional brass fittings and pairs well with chrome hinges, locks and other matching door furniture throughout the property.

Rosewood

The natural rosewood option highlights the grain and character of the timber, making each pair slightly unique.

Ebonised

The ebonised version features a durable black coating applied to the rosewood base material, creating a darker appearance that works particularly well alongside painted doors and monochrome interiors.

Both options are supplied with polished chrome rose plates and matching chrome fixing screws.

Unsprung Door Knob Information

These are unsprung door knobs, meaning there is no spring mechanism built into the knobs themselves.

To ensure reliable operation, they should always be used with a suitable heavy-duty tubular latch capable of returning the knob correctly after use.

For this reason, our complete sets include carefully selected heavy-duty tubular latches designed to work with unsprung wooden door knobs.

Whilst a 3" latch is suitable for many applications, we generally recommend a 4" latch where possible. The increased backset helps position the knob further away from the door frame and reduces the likelihood of your knuckles contacting the jamb during use.

All tubular latches and deadbolts supplied within our sets are fire rated to CE 1121 CF 5531. Where a fire-rated installation is required, please consult your door supplier or project designer to confirm overall compliance.

Installation

The knobs are connected through the door using a threaded spindle and secured using a small grub screw located within the neck of each knob.

This traditional fixing method provides a secure installation and allows minor adjustment during fitting.

Whilst these knobs can technically be used with certain rim locks due to the separate rose plate design, we would generally recommend choosing a dedicated rim knob where a rim lock installation is planned.
