What Is a Euro Profile Escutcheon?

A Euro profile escutcheon is a decorative plate fitted around the part of a Euro cylinder that passes through or projects from the door. Its central aperture follows the distinctive Euro-profile shape, helping conceal the cut-out around the cylinder and create a more professional finish.

Euro cylinders are widely used on modern front doors, patio doors and doors fitted with multipoint locks. They can also be used with suitable Euro-profile sash locks and deadlocks on internal or external timber doors.

Euro Profile or Standard Keyhole Escutcheon?

Choose the escutcheon according to the lock fitted to your door:

• Euro profile escutcheons fit around a Euro cylinder.
• Standard-profile escutcheons are shaped for traditional keys used with British Standard lever locks.
• Oval-profile escutcheons are designed for the less-common oval cylinder format.

Round and Square Euro Escutcheons

Where possible, match the escutcheon to the finish and shape of your door handles, cylinder pull or other entrance hardware. Finishes from different manufacturers can vary slightly, even when they have similar names, so products from the same coordinated range will usually provide the closest match.

Are Euro Escutcheons Sold Singly or in Pairs?

Pack quantities vary across the collection. Many Euro escutcheons are sold singly because one may be required on each side of the door, while selected products—such as some TUPAI escutcheons—are supplied as a pair with a fixing kit.

Check the pack size shown on the individual product page and order the required quantity for your installation. Matching screws or fixing kits are supplied where stated.

Using Euro Escutcheons on External Doors

Some Euro escutcheons are suitable for both internal and external doors, but this does not apply automatically to every material or finish. Check that the selected product is specifically approved for exterior use before fitting it to a front or patio door.

Euro Escutcheons for Coastal Properties

Coastal locations expose door hardware to salt, moisture and wind, which can damage unsuitable metals and finishes. For these properties, select an escutcheon whose product specification explicitly confirms suitability for coastal or highly exposed conditions.

The collection includes selected marine-grade stainless steel and solid bronze options with greater corrosion resistance. However, suitability still depends on the precise product, finish, installation position and recommended maintenance.

Do Euro Escutcheons Improve Door Security?

A standard Euro escutcheon primarily provides a decorative and protective finish around the cylinder. It should not be assumed to strengthen the lock or prevent cylinder snapping, drilling or pulling unless it is specifically sold and tested as a security escutcheon.

External door security depends on the complete system, including the cylinder, lock case, door, frame and any security-rated protective furniture. If security is the main priority, check the relevant ratings and seek professional advice before choosing the components.

Checking Size and Compatibility

Before ordering, check:

• That your lock uses a Euro-profile cylinder
• The overall dimensions and thickness of the escutcheon
• The cylinder projection on each side of the door
• Whether the fixing arrangement is exposed or concealed
• Whether one escutcheon or a pair is supplied
• Suitability for internal, external or coastal use
• Compatibility with your chosen handles or door knobs

Caring for Euro Escutcheons

Remove dust, dirt and water marks regularly with a soft cloth. Avoid abrasive pads, metal cleaners and aerosol sprays unless the product care instructions specifically permit them, as these may damage lacquered or plated finishes.

Living finishes such as solid bronze may change naturally through handling and exposure. This gradual development of colour and patina is an expected characteristic of the material.
