Traditional Handles

Explore our collection of traditional From The Anvil door handles, designed for cottages, period properties and interiors where authentic architectural detail matters. The range includes lever handles on rose and lever handles on backplate, with designs influenced by Tudor, Gothic and traditional British ironmongery.

Many of these handles are hand forged from mild steel and are available in From The Anvil’s characteristic Beeswax, Black and Pewter Patina finishes. The collection offers a choice of understated and decorative designs suitable for both restoration projects and newer homes with a traditional interior.

Different handle sets are available for passage doors, bathrooms and locking rooms. Check the individual product listing for available finishes, lock or latch compatibility, dimensions and whether the handle is suitable for internal or external use.

Traditional Lever Handles on Rose and Backplate

Lever handles on rose have a compact fixing plate that creates a simple, understated appearance. Depending on the door’s function, they can be combined with a tubular latch, separate keyhole escutcheon or bathroom turn and release.

Lever handles on backplate provide a more substantial traditional appearance. The backplate may be plain or decorative, with latch, lock, bathroom and Euro-profile configurations available on selected designs.

Beeswax, Black and Pewter Finishes

The traditional mild-steel range includes several distinctive finishes. Beeswax preserves the natural colour and texture created during forging, but it is a living finish that requires occasional maintenance. It is normally intended for internal use unless the product is specifically described as having an exterior-grade finish.

Black provides a classic wrought-iron appearance, while Pewter Patina creates a softer metallic look that works particularly well with natural timber and traditional joinery. Selected products may have different finish or exterior-use options, so always refer to the relevant listing before ordering.

Choosing the Correct Handle Set

Before ordering, check whether your door requires a latch, bathroom lock, sash lock or Euro-cylinder configuration. You should also compare the backplate dimensions, fixing centres, spindle size, door thickness and lock centres with your existing door preparation.

If you are replacing handles on an existing backplate, the new plate must be large enough to cover previous screw holes and marks. For new doors, choose the handle and its corresponding latch or lock together to ensure the components are compatible.
