Traditional Hand Forged Nails & Studs

Choosing Traditional Nails and Door Studs

Choose from hand-forged nails and decorative studs for timber doors, furniture and period joinery. The range includes rosehead nails, longer round- and square-head nails, and decorative designs for visible timber surfaces.

The forged mild-steel designs come in Antique Iron or Pewter finishes. Pyramid Door Studs are cast iron, with Black Beeswax or Pewter options. For matching fittings, browse our Traditional Hand-Forged Ironmongery collection.

Rosehead Nails

Rosehead Nails have a faceted head and are offered in 35mm and 65mm lengths, in Antique Iron or Pewter. Unlike the other nail and stud families here, they are sold in 1kg bags, not singly. Check the individual product drawing when choosing a size for your timber project.

150mm and 200mm Hand-Forged Nails

For longer nails, compare the 150mm Round Head, 150mm Square Head and 200mm Round Head designs. All three are sold singly, in Antique Iron or Pewter. The product listings recommend a pilot hole before fitting; check the drawings and intended application before ordering.

Cast-Iron Pyramid Door Studs

Pyramid Door Studs are cast iron rather than hand forged. They are sold singly in 16mm, 22mm and 25mm sizes, with Black Beeswax or Pewter finish options. They are visible decorative details for timber doors or furniture, not a substitute for a specified structural fixing.

Off-Centre Studs and Other Decorative Shapes

Off-Centre Door Studs have a spike set to one side so the head can conceal a separate screw fixing on a suitable timber door. They are sold singly, with 25mm and 30mm options in Antique Iron or Pewter.

Other decorative designs include Large Round Head, Octagonal Head, Shield, Flower, Rustic and Square. These are mild-steel designs sold singly in Antique Iron or Pewter. Compare dimensions on each product page; a head measurement is not necessarily the nail length.

Finishes and Exposure to Moisture

The mild-steel nails and forged studs in this range have Antique Iron or Pewter options. The cast-iron pyramid studs have Black Beeswax or Pewter options. A pewter finish does not make iron or steel corrosion-proof. Check the individual product’s care and suitability guidance before using any of these fittings outside.

Before You Order

  • Check whether the item is sold singly or by the bag.
  • Compare nail length, head dimensions and the relevant product drawing.
  • Choose the listed finish for the selected design; Black Beeswax is not an option on every item.
  • Check the fixing method and product warnings for your intended location. No load rating is implied by a decorative description.
