Our final visit to The Hayloft. Join us on a tour upstairs to see how Jasper and Michelle Dormer have created a beautiful first floor living room at the heart of the barn. We also take a look at the transformation of the garden into a contemporary space.
See Part I and Part II for more photos and inspiration.
Sitting Room
To retain as much of the beautiful architecture of the barn as possible, the Dormers decided to have their sitting room on the first floor. The galleried space is surprisingly cosy and the lattice of beams is visually stunning.
The gallery section of the sitting area looks down onto the dining room and out into the garden.
The Garden
Contemporary garden design in recent years has moved towards designing an outside space that is an extension of our living space. Relaxation and entertainment areas are key.
At The Hayloft, the garden is a work in progress. Already, the Dormers have created a versatile space for entertaining, with a wide terrace and seating area. Simple, yet effective. And the central water feature is a great focal point.
All In The Detail
The finishing touches, the accessories and details make such a difference to the overall look of an interior project. Jasper and Michelle have done such a great job in retaining the traditional feel of the barn, yet creating a contemporary, up-to-date living space that works for the modern family.
Hand forged door furniture and traditional ironmongery work so well in barn conversions.
A big thanks to Jasper and Michelle for welcoming us into their home. It was inspiring to see the results of their project.
