External Brass Door Handles

Shop external brass door handles in backplate and rose designs for front, back and other exterior doors. Selected products and configurations are stated as suitable for external use, with lock and Euro-profile options available across parts of the range.

Material, finish, supplied components and exposure limits vary between products. Many solid brass handles use lacquered finishes and are not suitable for coastal locations, so always check the individual product and selected variant before ordering.

Choosing External Brass Door Handles

Start with the door's locking arrangement and then choose the handle format. The lever, spindle, backplate or rose and any keyhole or cylinder furniture must work with the lock fitted to the door.

This collection includes selected brass handles on backplate as well as handles on round and square rose. Exterior suitability varies by product and configuration, so a handle should not be selected for an external door from appearance alone.

Backplate and Rose Handles

A backplate places the lever on a longer plate and can incorporate the opening required for a traditional lock or Euro cylinder. Rose handles use a smaller plate around the lever, with separate escutcheons or cylinder furniture where required.

You can compare the wider ranges in our Door Handles on Backplate , Door Handles on Round Rose and Door Handles on Square Rose collections.

Lock and Euro-Profile Options

Selected brass handle ranges include lock and Euro-profile configurations for exterior doors. Other variants within the same product family may be intended for internal latch, bathroom or three-lever lock applications.

Check the selected option rather than assuming every variant is externally suitable. Set contents can also differ between products, including the lock or latch, cylinder, spindle, escutcheons and fixings.

For help understanding the mechanism required, read our guide to choosing the right lock or latch .

Solid Brass and Lacquered Finishes

Many handles within this range are made from solid brass and are available in finishes such as aged brass, satin brass, matt bronze, polished chrome and satin nickel.

Finish names do not by themselves determine exterior suitability. Lacquered finishes have their own maintenance requirements, and the exact base material and finishing process should be confirmed on the individual product page.

Coastal and Exposed Locations

Exterior suitability should not be confused with coastal suitability. Several solid brass ranges in this collection are specifically marked as unsuitable for coastal locations.

For seaside properties or more demanding exposure, browse Coastal Door Hardware and choose products specifically stated as suitable for those conditions.

Replacing Existing Exterior Handles

When replacing an existing handle, compare the backplate or rose dimensions, fixing centres, spindle position, door thickness and the position of any keyhole or Euro cylinder.

Even handles with a similar appearance may use different fixing or lock centres. Use the individual dimensions and technical information before ordering a replacement.

Compare the Wider Exterior Handle Range

If material is less important than external suitability, browse the wider Exterior Door Handles collection.

For doors fitted with a multipoint locking mechanism, use the dedicated Multipoint Door Handles collection and compare the required centres and fixing measurements.
