Choosing a Multipoint Door Handle

A multipoint door handle is designed to operate a compatible multipoint lock fitted within the door. If you are unfamiliar with the system, read our guide to how a multipoint door lock works before comparing replacement handles.

The replacement handle needs to match the existing mechanism as well as the door and cylinder arrangement. Do not select a replacement from appearance alone. Two handles can look similar while using different centres, fixing positions, plate sizes or operating requirements.

Measurements to Check Before Ordering

Use the technical drawing for the individual product and compare it with the existing hardware. Important checks include:

• Handle or PZ centres – the distance between the lever spindle and the centre of the cylinder opening.
• Fixing centres – the distance between the fixing screw positions.
• Backplate size – the overall length and width of the existing plate.
• Spindle and door thickness – to confirm that the operating components and fixings are suitable.
• Handing – some lever shapes are supplied in left- or right-handed versions.

Exact measurements vary between products. Do not assume that a measurement used by one multipoint handle applies across the whole collection.

Entry, Patio and Passage Configurations

Selected ranges are available in different multipoint configurations, including Entry, Patio and Passage options. These describe different arrangements of the lever and cylinder opening and are not interchangeable simply because the backplates appear similar.

Check the selected product and variant carefully to confirm the correct arrangement for the door.

Springing and Handing

Springing requirements vary between multipoint handles and lock mechanisms. Some handles include their own spring assistance, while other arrangements depend more heavily on the lock mechanism.

Handing also varies. Several products in the current range are offered in left- and right-handed versions, while other lever designs use a different arrangement. Follow the handing information supplied with the individual product.

Materials and Finishes

The collection includes handles in brass, bronze, marine stainless steel and other material and finish options. Black, pewter-patina, chrome, nickel and brass-toned finishes are available across selected ranges.

Replacing Existing Multipoint Door Handles

If an existing handle is loose, stiff or damaged, check that the multipoint mechanism itself operates correctly before ordering a replacement. A fault within the lock may not be resolved by replacing the handles.
