Solid Brass Rim Locks

Our solid brass rim locks are traditional surface-mounted locks designed for internal doors, period homes and restoration projects. Available in large, small and bathroom versions, these rim locks are made from solid brass and can be paired with matching door knobs, escutcheons and hinges.

Unlike modern internal door locks hidden inside the door edge, a rim lock is fitted to the face of the door, making it part of the visible door furniture. The brass finish will naturally develop a patina over time, giving each lock a softer, aged appearance with use.

Please note that these locks are intended for internal privacy and traditional styling rather than external door security.

What Is a Solid Brass Rim Lock?

A rim lock is a traditional lock case fitted to the surface of a door rather than morticed into the door edge. This makes it a popular choice for cottages, period homes and renovation projects where visible door furniture is part of the overall look.

Solid brass rim locks offer a more substantial feel than lighter-weight alternatives. The material gives the lock a reassuring weight, while the visible case helps create a more traditional finish on internal doors.

Large, Small and Bathroom Rim Locks

This collection includes three main options: large solid brass rim locks, small solid brass rim locks and solid brass bathroom rim locks.

The larger version is well suited to doors where the lock is intended to be a stronger visual feature. Smaller versions work well on narrower doors or more understated interiors. Bathroom rim locks are designed for internal bathroom use where privacy is required.

An Unlacquered Brass Finish

These rim locks are made from solid brass and will naturally age over time. As the finish reacts to air, moisture and handling, it will gradually darken and develop a patina. This is part of the character of unlacquered brass rather than a fault in the finish.

Matching Door Knobs and Hinges

Solid brass rim locks can be paired with matching brass door knobs, escutcheons and hinges to complete the door set. Many customers choose these locks alongside polished brass door knobs for a coordinated internal door finish.

You can also complete the look with matching butt hinges or explore the wider Unlacquered Brass Hardware Collection for door knobs, cabinet hardware, window furniture and exterior fittings.

Alternative Rim Lock Styles

If solid brass is not the right finish for your project, you can browse our wider Rim Locks Collection, which includes a broader choice of traditional and period-style rim locks.

Alternative options include Cast Iron Rim Locks, Ornate Rim Locks, Bathroom Rim Locks and Classic Rim Locks.
