For heavier shelves and scaffold boards, use brackets of a suitable size and attach them to a structurally sound surface. Plasterboard, masonry and timber studs require different fixing methods.

Coat Hooks, Robe Hooks and Cabin Hooks

Cabin hooks serve a different purpose from coat hooks. These hook-and-eye fittings are used to hold doors, gates, windows or shutters in position. They should not be treated as security locks, and exterior suitability depends on the material and finish.

Always match wall fixings to the mounting surface and intended load. Unless a tested rating is provided, a coat or robe hook should not be used as a safety support or grab rail.

Handrail Brackets

Handrail brackets secure a stair or corridor handrail to the supporting wall. Available designs include cast-iron and solid-brass options in traditional and contemporary finishes.

A handrail is a safety-related installation. Bracket quantity, spacing, fixing position and wall construction must be appropriate for the rail and expected load. Decorative screws or unsuitable plasterboard fixings should not be relied upon where structural support is required.

If you are uncertain about the supporting wall or installation requirements, seek advice from a competent installer before fitting the handrail.
